Hello!

Long before I worked for The Iams Company, I have recommended feeding Iams Cat Food. I have 5 cats of my own, and they all eat Iams.

Meal as in chicken meal is simply "meat" with the water removed. By weight meal contains more actual "meat" than meat does as with meat you are weighting the water also. Of the 2 Nutro is the better quality product, my other suggestion in the same price range would be Blue Buffalo

Both are terrible. Believe me, I am the definition of poverty and if I can somehow gather up the money to buy both of my cats high quality food so can you. I recommend Wellness, you can find it at Petco.

Well i feed my cat wellness, and it is about 24.99 for a 2.27kg (5.2lbs) bag, but if you buy larger it is a little cheaper ( something like 45$ for 6.8kg/15.3lbs). But by the sounds of it that is a little our of your budget.

another good one (most picky cats like this too!) is california natural and it is 17.99 for a 2.55kg/6.3lbs bag. Or the larger bag is 37.99 for 6.8kg/15.3lbs.

Innova is another good brand, as is now. Not 100% sure on the prices of those but they are pretty close in comparison.

What i would do is go to your local petfood store and 99% of the time they have free samples of food. So tell them your budget and they will give you a sample or two or three to take him and see what he/her likes! goodluck

First, chicken meal isn’t a bad thing (as long as it’s not by-product meal). It’s a real meat source, but it’s added to the mix as an already-dried product. It’s lighter than chicken as it’s got all the water removed. So here is where the ingredients get misleading. Chicken is heavy - it’s full of moisture and water. Since ingredients are listed in order of weight, then the chicken comes first but really isn’t that great because next you have the nasty by-products and corn. The Nutro is really a better choice - chicken meal is much better than unnamed by-products, even if ‘real’ chicken is a first ingredient. The Nutro is better as you’ve got no scrap by-product in there, and it has less corn. Another affordable choice for you is Petsmart’s Authority brand. And if you spend a bit more, consider Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s Soul. Better than the Iams (by far!), the Nutro, and the Authority. Only problem is that the big chains don’t carry it, but the smaller chains do. Might be worth pricing for you.

I would choose the Nutro Max over the Iams. We are feeding quality canned food and Blue Buffalo dry (and adding raw beef a few times a week).

You could also try the Natural Balance foods. If you can, add canned food every other day or add some raw stew beef 3-4 times a week. All dry can lead to UTI’s in some cats - especially males.

I’d go with neither. I can rant and rave about grainless cat food diets, but it works and my cats are very healthy, even at older ages. I can also say that you do save money in litter box and vet care with very high quality food, and the money you save makes up for what you spend.

Now, I understand, quality cat food can be expensive. But, both brands are not very good. I would go with a brand called "Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s Soul". It cost about the same, or less than the brands you asked about, and is slightly higher quality.

The other thing to consider is this - you know about quality cat food. Why not try to alternate with a middle quality and higher quality cat food? It might be within your budget.

They can eat carrots, apples, corn, zuchinni, celery, wholemeal bread, rolled oats, unsalted peanuts, seedless grapes and raw macaroni.

Alrighty. So, as you may know, rats will eat just about everything.

But, that doesn’t mean all of that is GOOD for them.
So, heres a few things that you can give your rats that are healthy, and yummy.

Dried fruits and vegetables:

Carrots

Papaya

Blueberries

Raspberries

Mango

Cherries

Apple

Tomatoes

Pineapple

Raisins

Banana chips

Sweet potato

Fresh fruits and veggies:

Strawberries

Blueberries

Raspberries

Prunes

Plums

Melon

Apples

Applesauce

Bananas

Grapes

Celery (small amounts, because its really watery)

Broccoli

Squash

Cucumber

Zucchini

Carrots

Sweet Potatoes

Peas (It fun in the summer to put frozen peas in the bottom of a dish of water. Keeps them cool, and they have fun)

Beans. (Research specific beans before feeding them to your rat)

My rats also really enjoy Plain Cheerios.

And as for food, I believe my rats eat the "Forti-Diet" pellets. They quite enjoy them.

Our rats love broccoli, strawberries, blueberries, peanut butter flavored dog biscuits, whole grain cereal or toast & peas. Occasionally we give them a whole nut in the shell, which is a treat & toy @ the same time.

A couple people here suggested cheese, but actually dairy products aren’t good for rats except for an occasional bit of yogurt. Soy milk is ok as a treat & rats are among the few animals who can have a bit of chocolate. Plain peanut butter is too thick & sticky which can make them choke, so it should either be thinned out with water or soy milk, or baked into something.
